Lion wrestlers third at Conference Tournament

Clear Lake senior Eric Faught earned his third North Central Conference title and freshman Sam Nelson picked up his first at Saturday’s conference tournament held in Humboldt.

The Lions finished third as a team.  Clarion-Goldfield-Dows captured the title and Webster City  finished as runner-up.

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys rolled over the competition last week, picking up two lopsided victories.  The Cardinals now stand at second in the Top of Iowa West Division with a record of 10-2, 13-1.

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura wrestlers split a pair of duals when they hosted Newman Catholic and Belmond-Klemme on Thursday, Jan. 18.  The Cardinals topped Belmond-Klemme in a close 37-24 showdown, but fell to Newman Catholic, 48-24.

Barbara J. Erickson Hefty

Barbara Jane Erickson Hefty, of Carrollton, Ga., passed away Jan. 9, 2018, at the age of 73.

She was born April 10, 1944, in Minneapolis, Minn., the daughter of the late Edwin John Erickson and Betty Carol Harvey Erickson. She worked in child care and also was the first ever hostess at the Chick-fil-a in Carrollton.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, David E. Erickson.
