Association struggles with plan to dredge Venetian Canal

Property owners along the Venetian Canal on the northwest portion of Clear Lake are hopeful they will receive approval from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to proceed with self-funding the dredging of the canal.

Mike Schweizer, a representative of the homeowners association for Venetian Canal residents, attended a public meeting with the DNR Oct. 16, to share the frustrations that group has experienced for more than three years.

Council passes smoke-free parks ordinance

The Clear Lake City Council has passed a no-smoking ordinance for its City parks and additional public outdoor spaces.  However, the ordinance underwent some last minute revisions prior to a 3-2 passage.  Smoke-less tobacco was removed from the proposed ordinance.

Remember When 10-25-2017

(Above) Pumpkin grower in 1967In 1967, David Miller, 8, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Miller, measured one of his 45 pumpkins, the yield of one plant and three years in the growing.  Miss Donna Dull, a kindergarten teacher at Lincoln School, gave each class member a plant three years ago and each year Miller saved the seeds and replanted them in a garden belonging to his grandfather, Roscoe Miller.
