CL girls track team hosts Early Bird Relays

 The Clear Lake girls track team hosted its Early Bird Relays Tuesday, April 8. Algona ran away with the title, piling up 158 points to easily outdistance runner-up Humboldt with 107. Clear Lake was eighth in the eight-team field with 14 points.

The Lions’ highest placewinner was Megan Merfeld, who was third in the 400 meter dash in 1:08.84.

Track season now underway for GHV boys

The snow may barely be off the GHV track, but the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys track team found a track that was ready for action, as they competed at the Wartburg Indoor Meet in Tuesday, March 11.

“We have been practicing inside, so this meet provided the team with a great opportunity to compete,” said Coach Kelsey Steffens.  “The boys are excited for the season, as they have been working hard in practice.”

Six wrestlers looking for individual titles

Clear Lake’s wrestling team appears to be peaking at the right time. 

Cardinals go 3-0 at Belmond triangular

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura wrestling team competed in a triangular at Belmond on Tuesday, Jan. 28, and at the North Iowa Conference Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 1.

It was a good night for GHV on Tuesday, as they went 3-0 with wins over Belmond-Klemme, West Fork and Northwood-Kensett at the triangular.

“We wrestled well tonight,” said Coach Steve Smith.  

Lions chalk up 10th win

The Clear Lake boys chalked up their 10th win of the season and put themselves in the North Central Conference driver’s seat with a win over previously undefeated St.

Cardinals fail to catch Bulldogs, fall 56-20

The Hampton-Dumont Bulldogs (4-0) coasted to an early lead on the way to a 56-20 district win over the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura Cardinals (1-3, 0-2).  The passing game largely caught the Cardinals on their heels, as six of eight Bulldog pass completions went for touchdowns.

Area dancers claim National Championships

A competition dance team consisting of students from the North Iowa area recently traveled to St. Louis, Mo., June 13-15, to attained TOP Dance Nationals.

 The team competed in Hip Hop, Lyrical, Tap, Jazz, Contemporary and Solo/Duets.
 The team walked away with all superior top 10 rankings and three national titles.

GHV baseball team moves record to 5-16

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura baseball team moved its record to 5-16 with one win and three losses last week.

Good learning week for GHV girls softball team

It was a good learning week for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura softball team.
 “This was a good stepping stone week for us,” said Coach Christi Weiser. “We started the week with a great conference win over a young, but improving West Hancock team and then played competitive games against tough competition the rest of the week.”

Lions record a lopsided win over Mason City

Mason City managed to score a goal with barely five-minutes to play, but Clear Lake still posted a lopsided win over the Mohawks Thursday, May 22.  The Lions won, 6-1.
