It was a weekend of memorable moments for area teams that competed on the blue oval at the State Track meet held at Drake Stadium, in Des Moines.  Despite some inclement weather on a few of the days, Clear Lake and Garner-Hayfield-Ventura teams posted some of their best times of the season.

Clear Lake came back from a 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat Mason City in boys soccer Monday night, May 13.  The Lions roared to a 3-1 victory in the second half.

CL boys qualify for State Golf Championship

There’s just one more goal left to achieve for the Clear Lake boys golf team this season.  The Lions checked another one off their list Friday, as they qualified for the Class 3A State Championship.

The Lions, who are sixth with a record of 45-5, finished as runner-up to Central DeWitt at the District meet played at Manchester.  Central DeWitt finished with a score of 324; the Lions were two shots back at 326.

It was a great week for the Clear Lake girls soccer team.  The Lions ended a five-year winning drought against Mason City, and followed that with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Iowa Falls-Alden.
