It was a great week for the Clear Lake girls soccer team.  The Lions ended a five-year winning drought against Mason City, and followed that with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Iowa Falls-Alden.

Harrison places third at Regional tennis competition

Clear Lake’s Maranda Harrison finished third in Regional tennis competition, just missing a chance to compete at State.  The Regional was played Wednesday, May 15, at Waverly.  The top two finishers advanced.

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls soccer team moved their record to 4-10, splitting a pair of games last week.

Denver 10, GHV 0

The Cardinals met a very tough Denver team on the road on Friday, May 10.  The mercy rule came into play with 5:21 left in the game, as the Cards fell to Denver, 10-1.

GHV trap shooting team puts in a big week

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura trap shooting team had a busy week, competing in four meets.

On Saturday, May 11, Charles City hosted a meet in Nashua.  The GHV squad of Chase Moorehead, Nick Davis, Nick Dyre, Ashley Moorehead and Cougan Shropshire were awarded second place medals for their score of 214, placing behind the Charles City 1 squad who recorded a 215 for the day.  Seventeen squads participated in the meet.

The season came to a close for the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura soccer team as they fell in the opening round of playoffs on Monday, May 20, at home.  The Cardinals didn’t go down without a fight, losing to Grundy Center/Gladbooke in double overtime, 2-1.

Austin Bahensky scored GHV’s lone goal on a penalty kick.

Recording shots on goal were Bahensky with three and Ty Abele, Kevin Meyers, Jace Pringnitz and Jared Graham all had one.
