GHV girls soccer team wins first round in Class 2A Regional play

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls soccer team won when it counted.  The Cardinals dropped two matches prior to winning the first round of Regionals.

GHV fell to Humboldt, 3-1, at home on Thursday, May 16.

Chloe Johnson scored the Cardinal’s lone goal with an assist from Alison Johnson.

The Clear Lake Lions improved to 2-0 Thursday with a 10-2 victory over Iowa Falls-Alden.  The game had originally been scheduled for Wednesday at home, however weather delayed the game by a day and changed the site to Iowa Falls.

Both teams started out slow in the first inning, but the Lions scored four runs in the second inning, added singles in the fourth and fifth, then  exploded for four more in the sixth.

Not in our town: Prostitution sting gets nine

“Zero tolerance.”

That’s the message Clear Lake Police Department Captain Mike Colby said local law enforcement wanted to deliver through a sting operation focusing on human trafficking and prostitution.

Local law enforcement made a statement with the arrest of seven males and two females on Wednesday, May 29, on charges related to solicitation of prostitution.

A commercial dock has been preserved and businesses are expected to be announced soon at the former Sunset Bay Marina site at 2721 S. Lakeview Drive.

Gary Hugi announces candidacy for Third Ward representative

Former Clear Lake City Councilman Gary Hugi has announced his candidacy to represent the city’s Third Ward.

“To be the representative for Ward Three would be an honor and privilege.  I feel that I am well qualified since I served on the Planning and Zoning Commission and the City Council in the past years,” said Hugi.
