Helen Doris Estergard, 100, of  Clear Lake, died Monday, Nov. 28, 2016, at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

A celebration of Helen’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2, 2016, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake.  Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake.  The family will greet friends one hour before the service.

Lions pick up some impressive wins

For the second year in a row the Clear Lake Lions notched an impressive win over Waverly-Shell Rock.  Monday night the Lions used an effective defensive strategy and remained calm under pressure to post a 52-42 victory over the third ranked (4A) Go-Hawks.

The Lions, rated eighth in Class 3A, improved their record to 2-1 overall.

Tuesday night’s game against Osage had its ups and downs for the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls basketball team.

“We had moments when we looked pretty good and moments when we looked horrible,” said Coach Matt Erpelding.  “We struggled tremendously against their full court pressure in the first half and we made numerous poor decisions, but we did fight back on numerous occasions and I liked what I saw.”
