Girl Scouts cut the ribbon on new ropes course at Camp Tanglefoot

Girl Scouts are going to be reaching higher this summer at Camp Tanglefoot in Clear Lake.  Literally.

The City is getting closer to naming a new police captain.

Police Chief Pete Roth told the City Council Monday night that one dozen persons applied for the position, which was first advertised in March.

Help the Dance Team step up its funds

Once again the Clear Lake High School Dance Team is teaming with the Mirror-Reporter for a fundraiser.  Dance team members will be selling subscriptions to the local newspaper Monday, June 13, through Thursday, June 23.  This year, the girls will be calling from their cell phones and going door-to-door to make sales. New subscribers will get their choice of $10 Kwik Star gift card or a Mirror-Reporter cookbook.

Clear Lake’s enhancement project is a CLEAR winner

Clear Lake’s Restoration and Enhancement [CLEAR] Project is the best thing to happen here in our lifetime.  This is a true statement for anyone – regardless of their age – who happens to be reading today’s column.  It’s a bold claim, to be sure; but also one that is easy to back up.

Richard “Dick” Furleigh, 84, of Oelwein, Iowa,, died on Friday evening, May 13, 2016, at Mercy Living Plus, in Oelwein.

Family and friends will gather from noon to 4 p.m. on Friday, June 10, 2016, at the Oelwein American Legion Hall to celebrate Dick’s life.
