The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura softball team opened the season by splitting a pair of games.

The girls suffered a loss in their opening game of the season.  The Cardinals fell to Forest City on Wednesday, May 25.

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura baseball team is off to a solid start, picking up two wins to open the season.

It was an offensive battle to the end when the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura baseball team traveled to Forest City on Wednesday, May 25.  The two teams combined for 18 runs and 22 hits, but it was the Cardinals that prevailed with a 10-8 victory.

GHV’s Smith places second

The State Track Meet is a time for memories to be made.  The week proved to be a mixed bag of emotions for Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys track team.

A highlight of the meet was freshman Reece Smith placing second in the 3200 meter run and scoring eight points for the team.  Smith ran the race in 9:46.32.  This was the third fastest time in GHV school history.

The Clear Lake boys made the most of their trip to the State Track Meet in Des Moines last weekend.  Each of the members of the team who participated was awarded one, two or three medals for their efforts.

The Lions placed three relays, which Coach AJ Feuerbach and Assistant Coach Mike Callahan believe is the most since 1991.

Lions finish second to earn State berth

Clear Lake Golf Coach Eric Perry summed up his teams’ performance at Friday’s District Golf Meet with three words: every stroke counts.

The Lions finished second behind GCGR, Grundy Center at the Class 2A District played Friday, May 20, at Dike.  Both teams advance to the State Meet Friday at Lake Side Golf Course in Fort Dodge.  First round begins at 10:30 a.m., with the second round scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday.
