GHV girls pick up an OT win over North Iowa

It was an exciting week for the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls, as they picked up two wins, one of them in overtime.

GHV 67, North Iowa 65 OT

It was a hard fought battle to the end, but the GHV girls managed a two-point victory on the road.  They topped North Iowa (0-1, 0-2), 67-65 in overtime on Tuesday, Dec. 1.

(Above) Emergency landing in 1990 - An airplane transporting two inmates to the Iowa Medical and Classification Center at Oakdale, Iowa, made an emergency landing in the median of Interstate 35 near Clear Lake on Dec. 24, 1990.  There were no injuries reported following the belly landing by pilot Shirley Pardum, of Mason City.  The airplane, owned by Dwyer Aircraft in Mason City, began having motor problems shortly after taking off from the Mason City Municipal Airport.

Grayson Craun, 51, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015, at Opportunity Village, Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 10, at Opportunity Village with Pastor Rich Murray officiating.  Internment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to services.

Memorials may be directed to Opportunity Village, Box 622, Clear Lake, Iowa 50428.

Jill Maxine Deuel, 62, of Clear Lake, passed away, Nov. 21, 2015, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, in Mason City, Iowa.

A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015, at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th Street, Clear Lake. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Christmas spirit shines in Clear Lake

With temperatures in the 40s it didn’t feel too much like Christmas time, but holiday spirits were high at the 21st Annual Christmas By The Lake celebration.  Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tim Coffey reported the event was very successful, with crowds growing throughout the day Saturday to an estimated 10,000.  The Lighted Parade was enjoyed by those standing 10 to 15 deep along Main and followed by fireworks shot from City Beach since there was no ice on the lake.
