G-H/V to play MC in Iowa Hall of Pride Challenge

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls basketball team will be participating in the Iowa Hall of Pride’s community service initiative, the “Iowa Hall of Pride Challenge.”  The Cardinals will play the Mason City girls basketball team in a “Pride Scrimmage,” on Friday, Nov. 16, at the Mason City High School gym.  The freshman team will start at 

4:45 p.m., with the JV and varsity teams to follow.  Tickets will be sold at the door for $5 for adults and $3 for students.

Cardinal teams both take first place at Forest City; 11 earn conference honors

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura/West Hancock cross country teams hit the week running, competing in a meet in Forest City on Monday, Oct. 8, and in the North Iowa Conference Meet on Thursday, Oct. 11.

 

Forest City Meet

Both the girls team and the boys team had successful outings at Forest City, with both teams capturing first place.  The boys won with a score of 48, while the girls were crowned champions with a score of 35.

Cards dominate in Homecoming win

 

It was a Homecoming to remember for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura football team, as they dominated East Sac County, 41-6.

Clear Lake volleyball team sweeps Eagle Grove in home opener

 

The Clear Lake varsity volleyball squad won their first home match of the season in front of an enthusiastic Lion crowd.  Clear Lake swept Eagle Grove, 3-0.  Scores were 27-25, 25-14, 25-19.

Bartlett named to All-State Soccer Team

 

Clear Lake’s Hannah Bartlett has been named to the 2012 Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association’s All-State Team.

Bartlett was a Class 1A Second Team selection.  Twelve players and a goal keeper

Softball team gaining confidence

    The Clear Lake softball team is gaining experience and confidence as the season progresses. The Lions picked up their second win of the season Saturday, topping Rockford 11-8 at the Mason City Tournament.  Their record is now 2-7.

Girls shatter school record to claim Regional title

The Clear Lake girls golf team shattered a school record on their way to a Class 3A Regional title Monday at Veterans Memorial Golf Course.  The win sends the Lions to the State Meet in Ankeny next week (May 29-30) with momentum and confidence.

Lions host Jim Ahrens Meet

The Clear Lake boys track team participated in a pair of co-ed meets last week.  The Lions finished in the middle of the pack at Garner, then hosted the Jim Ahrens meet Thursday.

    Forest City ran away with the team title with 144 points, but the Lions showed well with 71 points to finish fourth.

    The Ventura boys track team is hitting its stride at just the right time, according  to Coach Rod Huber.

CL girls record some good performances

Hannover Relays
    The Lions were at Algona Tuesday, April 10, to compete in the Hannover Relays.  Some good performances were recorded against a tough field of competitors.
    Clear Lake’s Distance Medley relay with Peyton Huey, Caitlin Harle, Brittany Bieber and Trudy Peterson gave the Lions a win in 4:42.66.  Peterson also earned a second
