Cards stack the deck in their favor

 

No one was breathing easy during the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura football game Friday night until the final second ticked off the clock.  The Cardinals were able to hold a one-point advantage for a 21-20 win over South Central Calhoun in Class 2A, District 2 play.

Clear Lake competes in home meet

 

The Clear Lake Lions hosted a cross country meet Thursday, Sept. 13, at the Baptist Camp in Ventura.  The Lion boys finished second in the 11-team field, while the girls team, which was without a couple of its regular varsity runners, was seventh.

 

Cardinals drop close, 18-14, contest to West Hancock

 

The battle was on between rivals West Hancock and Garner-Hayfield/Ventura in the first football game of the season and G-H/V’s first outing as a combined team on Friday, Aug. 24, in Britt.

Zach Monson qualifies for U.S. Amateur Open

 

Zach Monson, formerly of Clear Lake, qualified for the U.S. Amateur Open to be held in Colorado, Aug. 13-19.

 

Monson qualified from a field of 88.  He won by two strokes in the Dallas-Fort Worth area to qualify.  The top two qualifiers move on to the U.S. Amateur Open.  

CLHS golfers earn All-State honors

     Three Clear Lake High School golfers have earned All-State honors from the Iowa High School Golf Coaches Association.
    Senior Meg Monson was a Class 3A First Team selection, while senior Taylor Berger and junior Malorie Fischels were named to the Second Team. CLHS Girls Golf

Lynx end season for the Lions

The season came to a close for the Clear Lake soccer team in the first round of Sub-State played Monday, May 21, at Webster City.  For the second time in just over a week the Lynx dominated the Lions.  They won, 9-0

Four Ventura players earn Cornbelt conference golf recognition

The Ventura boys and girls golf teams competed in the Cornbelt Conference Golf Tournament on Monday, April 30.  The boy’s team golfed at West Bend, while the girl’s team competed in Graettinger.
    The boy’s team placed sixth in the seven team competition.  Harris-Lake Park and Graettinger-Terrill/Ruthven-Ahryshire tied for the team title with 341 points.  Ventura scored 377 points.

Algona Meet
    The weather didn’t slow the Clear Lake girls golf team down Monday night, April 16.  The Lions topped Algona 184-215 in North Central Conference action.
    Meg Monson had the low score for the night, coming in with a 43 to lead the Lions.

Wind plays a factor in CL girls soccer loss to MC

    The Lions (2-1) held their ground against Mason City on a very windy Monday.  But with the wind at their back, the Mohawks scored the only goal in the match for a 1-0 victory April 9.
