CL boys win golf triangular

The Clear Lake boys golf team learned some important lessons in its first week out on the course.  The Lions earned a win in a triangular meet using the fifth best score tiebreaker, and then took on some of north Iowa’s and southern Minnesota’s best teams at Decorah.

Three shutouts for CL boys tennis team

 The Clear Lake boys tennis team added three more wins to its season total last week. All three were shutouts.

CL 9, Webster City 0
 The Clear Lake boys tennis team blanked Webster City 9-0 in a home match played Tuesday, April 15.
Same Jones, JJ Theobald, Andrew Davis, Jacob Peterson, Nick Chizek and Ben Mason all convincingly won their single matches. Jones and Chizek each shut out their opponents, 10-0.
The three doubles teams also won by lopsided scores.
Junior varsity players participated in three doubles games and also all won.

Clear Lake girls tennis team picks up two more wins

The Clear Lake girls tennis team notched two more victories las week, improving their record to 3-1.

CL 5, Osage 4

The Lions recorded a tight 5-4 victory over Osage in a match played Tuesday, April 15, in 38-degree weather.  Due to the cold the teams agreed to play eight game pro-sets with no advantage.

Clear Lake dropped its first four singles matches but got on track with wins in the number five and six singles positions by Kirsten Jordan and Hailey Grell. 

Soccer team tops MC, 8-1

 The Clear Lake boys soccer team improved to 3-1 with a victory over Mason City, but was then taken down by Class 2A power Waverly-Shell Rock.

  Mason City jumped out to a 1-0 lead, but it was all Clear Lake after that as the Lions went on to an 8-1 victory Tuesday, April 15.
“Once Mason City took an early lead it seemed to wake my team up,” said Coach Matt Anderson. 

Dogs, police officers search CL schools in training exercise

Officials from Clear Lake schools and the Clear Lake Police Department report the first K-9 training exercise conducted at the school Tuesday, April 15, went off as planned.

High School Principal Chris Murphy said five officers with five dogs participated in the unannounced, but previously agreed upon, training exercise.  Four dogs and officers were in the building at one time during second period at the school, between 9:20 and 10:05 a.m. 

Surf District declared ‘Iowa Great Place’

Grant money will fund sound system at 3 Stars Plaza, Surf parking, marquee improvements

 The Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) announced Thursday it has approved an Iowa Great Places Citizen Advisory Board recommendation to award $613,500 for projects in three new Iowa Great Places – Clear Lake’s Surf District, Madison County and Marshalltown – and the Danish Villages.

Lions beat GHV in season soccer opener

Coach Matt Anderson said he wasn’t quite sure what to expect in his team’s first soccer match of the season Tuesday, April 8.  What he saw gave him reason to be optimistic about the Lions’ year.

Clear Lake broke open a close match with Garner-Hayfield/Ventura in the second half and posted a 12-2 win.

CL girls continue roll; top GHV in a close contest

The Clear Lake girls soccer team improved to 3-0 with a pair of wins last week.  The Lions recorded close wins over Garner-Hayfield/Ventura and Mason City to remain unbeaten.

CL 1, GHV 0

The Lions out-shot Garner-Hayfield/Ventura 13-5, but scored just one goal in a match played Thursday, April 10.  That one goal was enough, as Clear Lake shut out the Cardinals, 1-0.

Ivy Hogg, with two great dribble moves, scored in the 19th minute of the game for the Lions.
