Weather delays water tower demo

Demolition work on the city’s downtown water tower was delayed this week due to weather.

Isler Demolition, of Michigan, had planned to begin work dismantling the vintage 1949 water tower this week, however forecasts for snow, ice and high winds caused the company to revise its schedule.  

Court upholds Board’s decision for school use

After three years court ruling is final, but school district has moved on

 

The City of Clear Lake’s Board of Adjustment acted properly in granting a conditional use permit to locate a counseling service for youth in the former Sunset School building.  That was the ruling of the Iowa Court of Appeals last week.

The ruling put an end to a nearly three-year battle about future uses for the school building.

Ventura awards bid for renovation project at elementary school

The Ventura School Board voted Monday to proceed with plans for major renovation of its 50-plus year-old elementary school.

The Board accepted the low bid of $372,720 from King Construction, Clear Lake, for the work on the school interior.  Seven alternate bids were also approved, totaling $421,545 for the project.  

According to Superintendent Tyler Williams, three bids for the project ranged from $421,000 to $530,000.  The district’s one-cent sales tax will fund the renovation, he said.

Della Grieme

 

Della Frieda Grieme, the daughter of William and Martha (Radke) Menke, was born July 29, 1918 in Galva, Iowa.  She was baptized Aug. 4, 1918 at St. John Lutheran Church, Hanover, Iowa, and confirmed on March 20, 1932 at St. John Lutheran Church, Hanover.  Della also attended the Hanover Parochial School.  

On Feb. 23, 1939 she was united in marriage to Lester J. Grieme at St. John Lutheran Church, Hanover.  This marriage was blessed with two children, Sandra and James (Jim).

Fred Banks

 

Fred R. Banks, 99, 1117 S. 8th St., Clear Lake, died Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the North Iowa Mercy Medical Center, Mason City, Iowa, surrounded by his loving family.

Dale Moe

 

Dale Edward Moe, 57, of rural Nora Springs, Iowa, and formerly of Northwood, Iowa, died on Friday, March 8, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa. 

A funeral mass for Dale will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly, Iowa, with Reverend John Gossman officiating.  Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Charles City, Iowa.

Donald Werstein

 

Donald D. Werstein, 76, of Clear Lake, died Monday, March 4, 2013 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.  

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with Rev.  Dean Hess officiating.  Do to his wishes, he was cremated following the service.  Inurnment will be at a later time in 

Clear Lake Cemetery.  Family suggests memorials to Zion Lutheran Church or Hospice of North Iowa.
