City Council gives final approval for ‘14 budget

 

The Clear Lake City Council approved its fiscal year 2014 budget following a public hearing Monday night.  

For the third straight year, the tax rate for the City of Clear Lake for the 2014 fiscal year, which begins, July 1, 2013 and ends June 30, 2014, is $10.54 per $1,000 of taxable value.

Independent Film Festival moving back to Mason City

 

The Board of Directors of the Iowa Independent Film Festival have voted to move the festival from Clear Lake to Mason City.

According to a statement posted on its website, several factors contributed to the decision, but the most important was the opportunity to relocate the festival to the newly restored Park Inn Hotel, the last remaining hotel in the world designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

Lions stopped one game short by Go-Hawks

 

The third time wasn’t a charm for Clear Lake in the Class 3A Sub-State final against Waverly (22-4).  The Go-Hawks made 21 of 27 free throw attempts, compared to just 11 of 14 for the Lions, on their way to a 65-55 victory Monday night at the McLeod Center on the UNI campus in Cedar Falls.

Ruth Jean Rayburn, 85, Clear Lake, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2013 at her home. 

Corrie Born

 

Corrie Born, 90, of Sioux Center, Iowa, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2013 at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center.

A funeral service was held Monday at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center with Rev.  A.T. Ver Gunst officiating.  Interment followed in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

Toppin earns First Team All-Conference honors

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys basketball team collected numerous conference honors at the conclusion of the North Iowa Conference season.

G-H/V’s coach, Joe Albertson, was named Coach of the Year for the NIC.

NIC honors three G-H/V girls

 

Three players on the Garner/Hayfield/Ventura girls basketball team earned North Iowa Conference recognition following the 2012-13 season.  Maddie Tusha was named to the First Team, while Bri Bier earned Second Team honors and Hannah Hutcheson was recognized with Honorable Mention.
