Changes coming for golf cart use in community

Effective Jan. 1, modifications to the city’s Golf Cart Ordinance will go into effect in an effort to make their operation more safe.

Police Chief Pete Roth presented revisions to the current ordinance during a special City Council meeting Monday morning.  His proposed amendments were based on suggestions made by Council members at a recent workshop session.

Highlights of the amendment, which will be formally adopted in December, are:

Local baker sprinkles generosity on Giving Tree

Teresa Lee is paying it forward in a very sweet way.  She is baking holiday cookies and using proceeds to benefit The Giving Tree.

This is actually the third year Teresa has used her talents to support The Giving Tree and other North Iowa non-profits.

Edward R. Kotz, Sr., 98, of Clear Lake died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2021 at Oakwood Care Center, in Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 2, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, east of Garner, with the Rev. Scott Kozisek officiating. Burial will be at Clear Lake Cemetery with military rites by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit.

A private funeral service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 7, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 1st Ave. N., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Scott Kozisek officiating.

Visitation will be open to the public from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 6, at the funeral home.

About anything that could go wrong did, Wednesday, as firefighters fought a losing battle against smoke, flames, location and the weather. In the end, they were resigned to watch as the main lodge at the Open Bible Camp, located in Ventura Heights, burned to the ground.
