Mervin “Merv” J. Dirksen, 93, of Clear Lake passed away Saturday, April 24, 2021 at the Oakwood Care Center, in Clear Lake.

A funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 30, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 1st Avenue North, Clear Lake.  Mervin will be laid to rest beside his wife, Joan, at Memorial Park Cemetery, in Mason City.

Ileen Newman, 96, formerly of Clear Lake, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 18, 2021, at Heritage Care Center, in Mason City.

Visitation was held on Thursday, April 22, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake.  A family graveside service was held on Friday, April 23, at Memorial Park Cemetery, in Mason City.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.

Barbara Jean (Sams) Dwyer, 89, of Clear Lake, passed away surrounded by family on Monday, April 19, 2021, in Clear Lake.

A Celebration of Life will be held later this year and inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.

Per Gene’s wishes, his body has been cremated and no services are scheduled at this time.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.

Nice day for a bike ride in 1971 - (Above) It took three hours and six “major” stops for these girls to bicycle around Clear Lake in 1971.  All the girls were eighth graders and included (L-R): Julie Hollibaugh, Carol Ritchey, Pam Makarcwicz, Dolores Anderson, Liz Lauber, Linda Radach, Dee Varty and Becky Severson.

CL girls claim some gold medals at Charles City Invitational

The Clear Lake girls track team had a couple of medal winners at the Charles City Invitational held Thursday, April 22.  Emily McLaughlin outdistanced the competition in the 300 meters to claim the gold medal in a time of 12:45.0.  Payton McGrath was also a medal winner, placing third in the 400 hurdles in a time of 1:22.25.  Anna Feuerbach finished fourth in the 800 meters in 2:48.57.
