Community rallies behind Lake couple battling COVID-19

Craig and Sue LaKose have been on a journey that most of us have been dreading since the pandemic began last spring. They both contracted the virus earlier this fall and have been battling it ever since.

“This has been a crazy ride I wouldn’t wish on anyone,” said Craig, who was released from the hospital on Monday, Oct. 12, after 28 days, 17 of those days on a ventilator.

City names interim public works director

Jeremy Korenberg has been named interim Public Works Director for the City of Clear Lake.  The City Council approved the hiring at its meeting Monday night, Oct. 19.

Korenberg, who currently serves as Operations and Maintenance Superintendent for the City, steps into the post previously held by Joe Weigel, who retired last month after 31 years with the city.

The Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division (ABD) announced Monday that the Surf District Bar and Restaurant in Clear Lake has been ordered to serve a 21-day suspension for violating state liquor laws.

According to the ABD, a hearing complaint was filed on July 2, 2020, alleging that the establishment reused and refilled liquor containers in violation of the Iowa Code.

Chamber makes plans for holiday event

Just like almost every event in 2020, Clear Lake’s holiday celebration will take on a new look this year.

Due to challenges presented by COVID-19, the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce has announced it is unable to present its annual Christmas By The Lake event in its usual fashion.
