Struggles continue for Clear Lake volleyball team

The Clear Lake volleyball team struggled through the week with a disappointing loss to Webster City followed by a tournament at Mason City where they were unable to win even one set.

X-C boys claim team title at Eagle Grove

Clear Lake’s varsity boys cross country team edged Webster City by virtue of the tie-breaker runner and claimed the team title at the Dick Bell Invitational held Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Eagle Grove.

“Our main goal for this meet was to beat Webster City,” explained Coach Tyler Havens.  “While it was very close ending in a tiebreaker, we achieved our goal.”

(Above) Marching band fun in 1995 - The Clear Lake High School Marching Band presented its final football halftime show in 1995.  The band delighted the crowd with their performance, including a drum routine in which David Baker played while standing on his head.  He was assisted by Shawn Person.

Three candidates vying for Iowa District 54 House of Representative seat

Voting has started in Iowa and for this year’s general election there will be three candidates vying for the Iowa District 54 State House of Representatives seat. With Representative Linda Upmeyer not seeking re-election there will be no incumbent candidate, leaving Republican Shannon Latham, Democrat Karen Koenig, and Independent candidate Bennett Smith competing to become the district’s new representative in the state house.

Court date set for Thelke

A Clear Lake man accused of threatening a female police officer has pleaded not guilty.

Scott Thelke, 43, was charged with first-degree harassment, assault on persons in certain occupations, public intoxication and a parole violation.
