Robert E. Arnold, Sr.

Robert “Bob” Arnold, Sr. succumbed to injuries received in a single-vehicle car accident on Tuesday, July 21.  Bob was born and raised in Clear Lake, attending Clear Lake Community Schools.  He left school to join the US Army.  In 1960, following his tour of duty, he and his bride settled in Clear Lake.

Shirley A. Holstad

Shirley Ann (Groe) Holstad, 91, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2019, at IOOF Home, in Mason City.

Per Shirley’s wishes, her body has been cremated and a visitation will be held from 2-3:30 p.m., Aug. 1, 2020, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake. Following the visitation, Inurnment will take place at Bristol Lutheran Church Cemetery, Joice, Iowa.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in care of the Bristol Cemetery Fund c/o Farmer’s State Bank, 116 Main St. #7713, Joice, IA 50446.

Geraldine Miller, 93, of Clear Lake, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2020 at Heritage Care Center, in Mason City, after a courageous battle with cancer.

A private celebration of Geraldine’s life was held on Friday, July 24, 2020, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Her family gathered and laid her to rest at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, in Mason City.

Memorials may be directed to the Clear Lake Arts Center or the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce in honor of Geraldine.

Return to Learn plan on agenda tonight

The Clear Lake School Board will meet in special session tonight (Wednesday, July 29) to approve a “Return-to-Learn” plan for the 2020-21 school year.

Earlier this month Superintendent Doug Gee gave an overview of three different learning options: totally online, a hybrid of online and class time, or totally back in school.

Jill Ann Miller, 64, of Clear Lake, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2020, at MercyOne North Iowa Hospice in Mason City.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 1, 2020, at Clear Lake Evangelical Free Church, 1310 Highway 18 West, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Chris McComic officiating.

Due to Covid-19 pandemic, attendees are asked to wear face masks and practice social distancing as able.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
