Ventura approves new fire truck purchase; proposes tax rate

The Ventura City Council has approved the purchase of a new fire truck at its regular Council meeting Jan. 14.

A Nov. 3 rollover accident took Ventura’s 2000 Freightliner Pumper fire truck out of commission.  Since that time the department has had free use of a 1981 Hendickson fire engine, which the Storm Lake Fire Department had retired from service.

Kurtis Dean Kemmerer, 62, of Clear Lake, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019, at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, in Mason City.

Visitation will be from 4-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019, at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, with a prayer service beginning at 6:30 p.m.  Harley-Davidson attire or colors are appreciated.

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys basketball team split a pair of games last week.  They easily handled North Iowa, but ran into a problem when they faced Forest City.

Randy M. Carolus, 61, of Mason City, died on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019.

A memorial service was held on Monday, Jan. 14, at St. James Lutheran Church, with Pastor Sid Bohls officiating.  Inurnment was held at Memorial Park Cementery, Mason City.
