The Clear Lake City Council unanimously approved a request from One Vision Monday night to issue revenue bonds for its TimberCrest Apartments project on the main campus of the organization, formerly known as Opportunity Village.

American Idol finalist returns to North Iowa

Maddie Poppe from Clarksville, Iowa has captured the heart of hundreds of thousands with her performances on ABC’s American Idol.  Tuesday, she returned to her home town as an Idol finalist, was treated to a parade and pep rally in her honor, and filled the grandstand at the Butler County Fairgrounds with adoring fans of her music.

Ventura Council chooses Schmit as Mayor

Joe Schmit was sworn in as the new mayor of Ventura Monday night, May 14.

Schmit was one of three persons who had expressed interest in filling the post for the remaining term of the position vacated by the death of Lynn Benson.

Former Ventura Mayor George Simpson had been considered a possible choice for the appointment.  However, Simpson sent a message to the Council just before their meeting to withdraw his name.

Clear Lake girls top GHV with a pair of wins

The Clear Lake girls soccer team improved to 4-3 overall last week, helped by a pair of wins over Garner-Hayfield-Ventura.

The Lions took the field Monday night May 7, for their home opener against GHV. It was a great night for soccer and an exciting game to watch.  The Lions came out on top with a 2-1 win.

Four to represent CL at State

Four members of the Clear Lake girls track team will be representing their school at this weekend’s State Track Meet.

Senior Macy Mixdorf qualified individually on the 400 meter hurdles, then joined with Olivia Amos, Ashley Archer and Makia Fessler to qualify in the shuttle hurdle relay.
