Four to represent CL at State

Four members of the Clear Lake girls track team will be representing their school at this weekend’s State Track Meet.

Senior Macy Mixdorf qualified individually on the 400 meter hurdles, then joined with Olivia Amos, Ashley Archer and Makia Fessler to qualify in the shuttle hurdle relay.

CL boys to send two events

The Clear Lake boys track team has qualified two events for the State Meet in Des Moines this week.

Senior Zach Lester will compete in the high jump and the Distance Medley team of Speed Toyne, Luke Eggers, Justin Wright and Lester will run.  Lester finished in fourth place in the high jump by clearing 6’2”, while the Distance Medley was second with a time of 3:46.55.

It was a successful day for the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls track team when they qualified two events for the State Track Meet at the Iowa Girls and Boys 2A Qualifying Track Meet held on Thursday, May 10, in Osage.

The top two placements in each event automatically qualify for the State Meet.

Madeline Hinz qualified in the 100 meter hurdles as runner-up with a time of 16.26.

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys track team had a goal of qualifying a relay for State this year, and they accomplished that goal, as well as sending three individual events to the State Meet.

The Cardinals placed 10th in the 12-team field at the Iowa Girls and Boys 2A Qualifying Track Meet held on Thursday, May 10, in Osage with 42 points.  Forest City won the meet with 109 points.

The Clear Lake Lions began their quest for another State title by competing in the Class 3A Sectional Tournament at Charles City Friday, May 11.  The Lions were impressive in the outing, winning by seven strokes as a team over West Delaware, 339 to 346.  Clear Lake’s Jackson Hamlin was the runner-up with rounds of 41 and 40 for an 81.  Brandon Larson, of West Delaware, earned medalist honors with an 80.

CL girls win Class 3A Sectional Meet

The Clear Lake girls were winners at their Class 3A Sectional Meet played Monday night, May 14, in Charles City.  The Lions shot a 212 at Cedar Ridge Golf Course to advance to Regional competition Monday, May 21, at Waverly.   Charles City shot a 216 and Decorah shot a 223.
