Lions runner-up at meet

The Lions finished as runner-up Thursday, May 3, at Lynx invitational in Webster City.  Nevada captured top honors with a team score of 316.  Clear Lake was second with 334, followed by Ballard with 341.  The remainder of the field included Webster Cit with a 355, and Gilbert, 366.

Gilbert’s Tommy Doyle was the medalist with a 74; runner-up was Noah Hartmann, of Ballard, with 75.

Lions beat Oelwein, 9-0, in windy conditions

The Lions adapted well to windy conditions and topped Oelwein, 9-0, in boys tennis last week.

“It was a very windy day to play tennis.  I thought the players did a good job of adjusting to the adverse conditions, said Coach Rich Peters.

Gregory Lee Johnson, 39, of Peosta, Iowa, formerly of Clear Lake, lost his 10-year struggle with depression on Tuesday, April 24, 2018.

A “Gathering of Remembrance” will be held on Saturday, June 9, from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. at the Clear Lake Arts Center, 17 S. 4th St., Clear Lake.

In lieu of customary remembrances, any memorial contributions may be directed to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention-Iowa Chapter in Ankeny, or to Everybody Plays Playground, in Clear Lake.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, with Pastor David Peterson officiating.  Burial was at Memorial Park Cemetery, in Mason City.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at Faith Baptist Church, Mason City, with Pastor Greg Gosnell officiating.  Burial was at Clear Lake Cemetery in Clear Lake.
