Lions hold off determined GHV girls

Clear Lake advances to meet IF-A in Regional tonight

  Garner-Hayfield-Ventura gave the fifth rated Clear Lake girls all they could handle for nearly three quarters, but the inevitable run by the Lions helped them earn a 64-38 victory in the Class 3A Region 2 opening round Saturday, Feb. 10.

The final score was not indicative of the close play throughout much of the contest.

Call them the come-back kids.

The Clear Lake Lions extended their win streak to 10 and won Thursday night in a nail biter over Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, 48-47.  Since the Christmas break the Lions (16-4) have won 11 of 12 outings and are playing with confidence with the post-season on the horizon.

Three Lions, one Cardinal advance to State wrestling

Clear Lake will send three wrestlers to the State Meet and Garner-Hayfield-Ventura will be represented by one.

All three Lions advancing were champions at their weight at the Class 2A District 1 meet held Saturday at Parkersburg.  Clear Lake will be represented by Sam Nelson at 106 pounds, Eric Faught at 126, and Kade Hambly at 195.  GHV’s Jared Shaw was runner-up at 152-pounds to advance.

Clear Lake will send three wrestlers to the State Meet and Garner-Hayfield-Ventura will be represented by one.

Top ranked New Hampton tops Lions for State Dual berth

Top ranked New Hampton topped Clear Lake in the Class 2A Regional Dual Team finals Tuesday.  The Chickasaws advance to the State Dual finals Wednesday, Feb. 14, in Des Moines.

CL 41, IF-A 22

The Lions opened the Dual Team Regional with a 41-22 victory over familiar North Central Conference foe Iowa Falls-Alden.

Clear Lake’s Bryan Hillyer (132), Ben Finn (160), Kade Hambly (195), Sam Nelson (106) and Eric Faught (126) all had pins in the match.
