The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls headed into the holiday break on an upswing, picking up two victories to move their record to 3-4, 5-6.

GHV 56, Eagle Grove 24

Defense was the name of the game Tuesday night, Dec. 19, when the GHV girls held Eagle Grove to 20 percent shooting from the field on their way to a Top of Iowa Conference victory.

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura wrestling team competed in a dual on Thursday, Dec. 21, against Iowa Falls-Alden and Rockford, at Iowa Falls.

The Cardinals fell to Iowa Falls-Alden, 58-24.  Five forfeits by GHV didn’t help its cause, but the team did have some highlights.

Clear Lake police arrested two Clear Lake residents suspected of housing a marijuana growing operation.

On Monday, Dec. 18, Clear Lake police investigators arrested James L. Thornton, age 69, and Penny S. Frenz, 56.  The pair  was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Drug Tax Stamp, Conspiracy to Distribute Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Leann Yakle, of Mason City, won a 43-inch LED TV through one of the Mirror-Reporter’s holiday giveaways.  Leann entered the drawing by returning her entry form, which was inserted in the paper’s city-wide mailing during the Thanksgiving holiday.  Pictured congratulating the winner is Mike Finnegan, owner/ publisher of the Clear Lake Mirror-Reporter.
