A Buffalo Center, Iowa man who pleaded guilty to federal charges of mail fraud in conjunction with stealing more than $318,000 from his Clear Lake employer was sentenced to prison time last week in U.S. District Court.

Lake woman injured in two-vehicle crash

A Clear Lake woman was injured in a  two-vehicle crash in rural Clear Lake Thursday, Aug. 31.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, Tami Nelson, 53, of Forest City, Iowa failed to yield at a stop sign placed at the intersection of County Road B-20 and S-18.  Nelson, driving a 2012 Ford Aerotech bus, struck the driver’s side of a 1998 Buick driven by Wilma Anderson, 70, of Lake Mills, Iowa.

The accident was reported a 1:41 p.m. Thursday.

Ernest "Ernie" Hudson, 93, of Mason City, died Monday, August 28, 2017, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit of Mason City.  A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, September 1 at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, Mason City.  A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5 - 7 pm on Thursday, August 31 at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel and will continue one hour prior to service time at the chapel on Friday.  Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of North Iowa.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake.

Family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of North Iowa or One Vision (Opportunity Village).

Senior Speed Toyne scored six touchdowns, helping the Clear Lake Lions to maul Mason City in the 2017 football season opener Friday night, Aug. 26.  The Lions amassed 419-yards of offense and the defense held their opponent to 267-yards in a 55-22 victory.
