Joe Meyer, 33, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away with his loving family by his side on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017, after a valiant battle with cancer. He was graciously welcomed into Heaven to join his family and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Joe has graciously donated his body to the Des Moines University Body Donor Program to continue his journey of helping others.

Elnora (Elie) Mae Zimmerman Paulson, 87, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Anamosa Fire Department or St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Elnora was born Sept. 23, 1929, in Olin, Iowa, the daughter of Mino G. and Sophia Dirks Zimmerman.

Jessica Rhea Herker, 28, of Clear Lake, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017, in Mason City, Iowa.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, with Pastor Will Hunsaker officiating.  Inurnment will be at Clear Lake Cemetery in Clear Lake.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, in Clear Lake.

Family suggests memorial contributions to the Jessica Herker Memorial Fund.

Clear Lake Second Ward City Council candidate Bennett Smith has submitted a formal challenge to the listing of a challenger’s name, “Ben Smith,” on the November General Election ballot in its current form.

Bennett Smith submitted a letter of challenge to the Cerro Gordo County Auditor at 4:10 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25.
