Stephens competes in USBC Senior Championship

After bowling for decades, Clear Lake’s own Shelley Stephens participated for the first time in the USBC Senior Championship Tournament recently.  Stephens was the only representative of Iowa in the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Senior Championship Tournament, according to Charla Green, the USBC’s Association Manager.

Smith launches campaign for Second Ward seat

Bennett Smith has announced his candidacy for the Second Ward City Council seat in Clear Lake for this upcoming election.

“I am running for City Council because I have a passion to serve the community that I was fortunate enough to grow up in, and I believe that I have the ability, experience and judgement to make a positive contribution to Clear Lake by serving on our City Council,” said Smith.

The candidate said he will focus on three key themes during the campaign.

Paving the way for students

Among those feeling the crunch of getting ready for school to start are construction workers.  City Administrator Scott Flory said Tuesday that work on the intersection of Main Avenue and 20th Street, which leads to Clear Lake High School, is on schedule to be opened in time for the start of school on Wednesday, Aug.
