Experienced players to be heart of Clear Lake team

The Clear Lake Lions will field an experienced team with a goal of emerging out of the competitive Class 2A District 2 to make a run in the post season.

The Lions finished with a record of 3-6 overall and 3-4 in the district last season, marking the first time in 19 years the team did not qualify for the playoffs.

Coach Jared DeVries said his team is excited to start the 2017 season.

Ellis ready for first season as Clear Lake volleyball coach

The Clear Lake volleyball program is under the direction of a new coach this season.

Richie Ellis is new to the Lions, but he brings a good deal of experience to the helm.  Ellis is in his eighth year as a head volleyball coach, having coached six years at Kee High in Lansing and one at Central Community in Elkader, Iowa.  Prior to that he coached club volleyball in Elkader.

CL cross country teams ready to make some noise

Clear Lake cross country teams are ready to make some serious noise this fall.

The Lions have been steadily building their program, with three runners earning All-North Central Conference honors last season, three were All-District, and the CLHS boys qualified as a team for State competition and placed eighth.

Despite losing seven seniors from last year’s successful squad, Garner-Hayfield-Ventura Volleyball Coach Kelsey Edwards, is expecting some excitement from this year’s team.  Last season the Cards finished third in the Top of Iowa Conference and ended with an 18-10 record.

GHV cross country to be very competitive in 2017

Depth and talent return this season to the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys and girls cross country program.

With 15 girls and 21 boys comprising this year’s roster and some key runners returning, the Cardinals are showing a lot of promise.

“Our main strength this season will be our team leadership,” said Coach Jeff Short.
