Senior Speed Toyne scored six touchdowns, helping the Clear Lake Lions to maul Mason City in the 2017 football season opener Friday night, Aug. 26.  The Lions amassed 419-yards of offense and the defense held their opponent to 267-yards in a 55-22 victory.

Cardinals start season strong with a big win over West Hancock, 40-0

It was a one-sided game from beginning to end, as the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura Cardinals overcame their season-opening opponents, West Hancock, by a convincing 40-0 score.

The Cardinals got on the board early and often, tallying 369-yards of total yards to the Eagles’ 146.

CL boys take top honors

Clear Lake cross country teams started the season on a strong note.  The boys team finished in first place out of eight teams with 38 points at the Iowa Falls-Alden Invitational run at Mayne’s Grove Thursday, Aug. 24.  The girls team finished sixth with 128 points.

Pedelty overall winner

Clear Lake boys placed four runners in the top 15, with Sam Pedelty being the overall winner with a time of 17:25.

North Iowa won the first two sets, 25-16 and 25-17.  GHV rallied in the third game and posted a close, 25-22, victory.  North Iowa came back strong in the fourth set and recorded a 25-13 victory to win the match.

Clear Lake volleyball team finishes .500 at first tournament

The Clear Lake volleyball team kicked off the season on a positive note.  The Lions, coming off a 9-22 record last year, finished a .500 at their first tournament of the 2017 season.  The team went 3-3 competing at Clarion-Goldfield Saturday, Aug. 26.
