Opportunity Village to announce name change

  On June 20, Clear Lake-based nonprofit organization Opportunity Village will begin a new chapter in its history.

  A celebration will be held in Mason City and Fort Dodge on that day to commemorate the launch of the organization’s new name. Celebrations will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the North Iowa Events Center’s Kinney Building, in Mason City, and at the Best Western Starlite Village, in Fort Dodge.

  The organization’s new name will be announced at both events.

The Muskie opens under new ownership

Located in Ventura, The Muskie Lounge has been up and running for 42 summers, but this year, change is in the air.

The Muskie Lounge opened for business once again on May 3. However, longtime owner, Richard Berry, passed away in December of 2016, leaving the business to his niece, LuAnn Hejlik, and her husband, Craig.

Relay for Life a success

The first planned Relay For Life of Cerro Gordo County in Clear Lake was a smashing success, according to organizers.  Total fundraising figures are not available yet, but the $105,000 goal has already been exceeded.  Committee member Colleen Snyder said  approximately $16,000 was raised Friday night with a Silent Auction, food sales, bounce house donations, T-shirt sales and bucket run challenge, over 250 Luminarias were sold and donations.
