CL softball team battles tough competition

The Clear Lake girls softball team battled some of the best teams in the conference and area last week.  The Lions dropped three games before winning their opening contest at an Emmetsburg Tournament Saturday.  They were denied a victory in the second game by weather-related scoring rules. The Lions ended the week with a 3-7 overall record.

Cardinal baseball team rolls to victories

It was good week for the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura baseball team, as they rolled to three more wins.

GHV 4, Osage 3 (8)

The lead was up for grabs many time when GHV traveled to Osage on Tuesday, June 7.  The two teams passed the lead back and forth before the Cardinals finished off the game with a 4-3 victory in eight innings.

The final score that sealed the deal was an RBI single by Colton Schroeder that scored Ryan Meyers.

The lead was up for grabs many time when GHV traveled to Osage on Tuesday, June 7.  The two teams passed the lead back and forth before the Cardinals finished off the game with a 4-3 victory in eight innings.

Elizabeth Lucy "Betty" Hoeft, 72, of Ventura, left the world Friday, June 20, 2016, to be in Heaven with Jesus.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Thursday, June 16 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church.  Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Wednesday, June 15 at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel.

Snelling repeats as Girls State Golf Champion; Clear Lake girls golf team places second

Clear Lake’s Emily Snelling repeated as State Champion and the Lions placed second in the Class 3A Iowa High School Girls State Golf Championship played at the Goldwater Golf Links in Ames.

Snelling, a junior who won the title last year in a play-off, the led the field from start to finish.  Her two day total of a two-under par ( 73-67) 140 is the third lowest in school history.

GHV girls top Clear Lake in Regional action

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls soccer team made school history last week with their first ever Regional win.  Unfortunately, the season ended in the second game for the Cardinals.

GHV 1, Clear Lake 0

GHV faced Clear Lake on Tuesday, May 31, to open Regional play.  The Cardinals’ Payton Bamrick connected on a goal deep in the first half.  That was all it took, as one goal was enough to top the Lions.
