Lions in a slump

Mason City and Iowa Falls sent the Clear Lake boys into the holiday break with a three game slump.  A pair of losses put the Lions at 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the North Central Conference.

Lion wrestlers drop close battle to Spencer

Spencer earned a win based on criteria in a non-conference battle on the mat Tuesday, Dec 20.

The two teams finished the meet tied at 33-33, but Criteria D gave the host team the win, as they won eight matches compared to the Lions’ six.

As the score indicates, the non-conference match was filled with excitement.

Spencer jumped out to a quick lead with a fall in the 285-pound match and decision at 106.

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys got to head into the holiday break on a winning streak after collecting three big Top of Iowa Conference victories.  The Cards moved their record to 7-0, 7-1.

The Lions, ranked eighth in Class 3A, headed into the Christmas break riding a six game win streak following a 61-28 thrashing of Iowa Falls-Alden Tuesday, Dec. 20.  The victory kept the Lions atop the North Central Conference leader board with a 4-0 record.  They are 7-1 overall

Clear Lake was steady on the road, putting up 12 points in both the first and second quarters, while wrecking havoc with the IF-A offense, to take a 24-13 lead into the halftime break.

GHV grapplers compete in Eagle Invite

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura wrestling team competed in the Eagle Invite on Thursday, Dec. 22.

St. Ansgar 54, GHV 24

Despite a strong showing in the lower weights, GHV couldn’t collect enough points, and St. Ansgar topped the Cards, 54-24.

Five wrestlers picked up wins for GHV:

Drew Furst, 106 pounds, won by forfeit.

Austin Case, 113 pounds, pinned Sam Juenger in :31.

At 126 pounds, Caleb Renner won by a 7-4 decision over Connor Springer.
