Mary Ellen Charest, 85, of Clear Lake, Iowa died Monday, Jan. 25, 2016 at Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake, Iowa.

A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Friday Jan. 29, 2016 at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Ed Bard officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

The family suggests memorials to Hospice of North Iowa.

(Above) Poodle skirts and pompadours were popular again in 1991 at the Surf Ballroom for the annual Winter Dance Party. The crowd danced to the tunes of Carl Perkins, Wanda Jackson, Jack Scott, the D.C. Drifters and the Sun Rhythm Section entertained the crowd.

Samuel Bealor Swartz, Jr., 84, of Clear Lake, Iowa died Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016, at his home.

Per Sam’s wishes, his body has been cremated and a Celebration of Life will be from 2-6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, at his home, 5851 S. Shore Dr., Lot 20, Clear Lake.

Family suggests memorial contributions to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

With just three games remaining in the regular season, the GHV boys are looking to finish strong. Last week they recorded three wins, moving their record to 15-3 overall.

Four Cardinals finished in double figures, helping GHV cruise past Bishop Garrigan Tuesday night, Jan. 26, 86-53. The win wasn’t quite as easy the score indicated.

CL boys power past NCC teams, fall to Crestwood

The Clear Lake boys sandwiched a loss with wins this week, putting their record at 9-8 overall heading into February.
