R. Robert Hollibaugh

  R. Robert Hollibaugh, 92, of Aurelia, Iowa, formerly of Kingwood, Texas, passed away on Friday, Jan. 29, 2016, at his daughter’s home in Aurelia, where he and his wife have made their home since December of 2015.

Memorial services will be at a later date in Winfield, Kansas. The Redig Funeral Home, in Aurelia, is in charge of local arrangements.

Janet Baack, 81, of Clear Lake, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016, at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Steve Bang and the Rev. Kirk Wilkie officiating.  Burial will be at Clear Lake Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the Janet Baack Memorial Fund or to Zion Lutheran Church, in Clear Lake.

James “Jim” LeRoy Hanson, 75, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016, at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa from pancreatic cancer.

Vernyce “Verny” A. Ellickson, 72, of Clear Lake, died Monday, Feb. 1, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center, in Mason City, Iowa.

Six Lion wrestlers moving on

Six Clear Lake grapplers qualified for the District meet this Saturday at Aplington-Parkersburg.  Eric Faught (106), Ryan Leisure (138) and Ryan Faught (152) all won Sectional titles Saturday at Charles City.  Placing second and advancing were Jackson Hamlin (113) ,Will Kirshbaum (132) and Kyle Willms (285).

Two Garner-Hayfield-Ventura wrestlers claimed championship honors on Saturday, Feb. 6, in Class 2A Sectional action in Garner.  Clarion-Goldfield won the tournament 256 points.

Conner Shaw and Cade Baker finished at the top of the podium.

Shaw, who wrestlers at 170-pounds, won by major decision over Caleb Olson, of Webster City, 15-4.

Baker pinned Humboldt’s Nate Kollmorgen in :24 to earn the top spot at 182-pounds.
