MC man arrested after high speed chase on Highway 122, I-35

A Mason City man is under arrest after leading authorities on a high-speed chase Tuesday, Feb. 16.

According to the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department, at about 8:52 p.m., a deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on US Highway 18 near the intersection of Mallard Avenue. The driver of a 2000 Buick Regal, Dillon Rasmussen, fled the scene, with additional deputies, along with Clear Lake police and an Iowa State Patrol trooper assisting in the pursuit.

Richard Hopper

Richard H. Hopper, 92, of Ventura, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, in Mason City, Iowa.

  Funeral services were held on Friday, Feb. 12, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, in Ventura, with the Rev. Jesse Burns officiating.  Burial was in Concord Township Cemetery, in Garner, with military rites by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit.

  Memorials may be directed to the Richard Hopper Memorial Fund.

Ann N. Baago

Ann Norlene Baago, 69, of Clear Lake, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016, at her home, surrounded by her children, her husband, Harry, and her beloved kitties.

A Celebration of Life service and burial will be held at a later time to be announced.

School Board will narrow field of superintendent candidates for March interviews

The Clear Lake School Board will meet in closed session Monday, Feb. 29, to select three to five finalists for the position of district superintendent.  According to School Board President Chyrl Bergvig, the district received 40 inquiries and 20 fully completed applications for the position.
