Clear Lake cross country season opens on a high note

The Clear Lake cross country season started off on a high note.  At the first meet of the season Monday, Aug. 24, at Iowa Falls, the boys finished first with 30 points, 15 points ahead of second place Humboldt.  The girls finished third with 82 points, only 10 points from second place.

Coach Nick DiMarco pointed out the cross country teams have their highest numbers in recent memory, with 46 runners on this years’ squad.

Jones leads CL X-C girls

The Lady Lions were led by last year’s State qualifier, sophomore Gretchen Jones, who finished fifth in a time of 21:52.  Senior Erin O’Tool was second for the Lions, finishing 11th overall with a time of 23:27.

CL volleyball team goes 4-2 at Clarion tourney

The Clear Lake volleyball team opened its season at a tournament held in Clarion on Saturday. The Lions were handed two quick losses, but quickly turned things around and rattled off four straight wins.

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura volleyball team put up a good fight in their opening contest of the season against North Iowa on Thursday, Aug. 27, but they came up short in the four game match.

North Iowa opened strong with a 25-19 win in the first match.  The Cardinals dug deep in the second match and pulled off a close, 25-23, victory.  North Iowa picked up the next two wins, 25-22 and 25-20.
