Times falling for G-H/V girls

 

It was a good night for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls track team on Tuesday, April 30.  The team placed second in a field of eight.  Forest City won the meet with 158 points, followed by G-H/V with 116 and Clear Lake with 85 team points.  Also competing were Hampton-Dumont, Northwood, Newman, Belmond-Klemme and CAL.

Cards bring home some first place finishes

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls track team traveled to North Union on Thursday, April 25.  The Cardinals placed fourth in a field of eight teams.  North Iowa won the meet with 121 points.  G-H/V scored 77 team points.

“We were hoping to score higher as a team, but we’re still figuring out the best places to put everyone,” said Coach Dyan Childress.  “I’m anxious to see what happens by just moving a few people around and putting together some different relays.”

Cardinals fall to IF-A in soccer show down

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys soccer team dropped a 4-1 match with Iowa Falls-Alden on Thursday, April 4.

“Although Iowa Falls-Alden is a good team, we didn’t play our best,” said Head Coach Eric Williams.  “You could tell that we just don’t have our legs under us yet, or feel comfortable with each other.  We need to play as a team and understand each other’s rolls.”

The team was without starters Alex VanGerpen, Keith Schwicherath and Allen Devora.

Ouverson signs to play volleyball at NIACC

 

Clear Lake’s Carly Ouverson has signed on to play volleyball for North Iowa Area Community College in the fall.  

Ouverson, named to the North Central Conference elite volleyball team following her senior season, was a master at setting up the Lion offense.  She recorded an amazing 550 

Focused GHV girls topple Panthers

It was a focused and determined Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls basketball team that took the floor Friday night, Dec. 20, at home against Central Springs. 

GHV boys open season with two wins and a loss

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys basketball team finished the week with a 2-1 record.

GHV 62, North Union 42

The Cardinals had an impressive opening to the 2013-14 season, dominating North Union, 62-42.

GHV jumped to an early 19-5 first quarter lead behind the hot hand of senior Joel Toppin.  By halftime, the Cards stretched the lead to 39-20.

Bristol named USA Rugby Collegiate All-American

Cadet 1st Class Jackson Bristol has been named USA Rugby Collegiate All-American for 2013 and was featured in Rugby Magazine’s 2013 Men’s Collegiate All-Americans list for being among the “best of the best” in college rugby.

Bristol is the son of Richard and Sue (Kennedy) Bristol, of Denver, Colo., and grandson of Wanda and Jack Kennedy, Clear Lake.

Clear Lake boys second at Conference Meet

The Clear Lake boys cross country team saved their best for the North Central Conference Meet.  The Lions finished as runner-up in the meet, held at Eagle Grove, to fourth ranked Algona.  The Lions topped eighth ranked Fort Dodge St. Edmond and Humboldt for the first time this season.  

Lions move one step closer with win

 

Clear Lake took a major step toward earning the Class 3A District 3 title with a 35-25 victory over sixth ranked Humboldt Friday night at Lions Field.  The No. 5 ranked Lions, who moved to 5-0, will host the only other undefeated team in the district, Webster City, this Friday.

Clear Lake runners look good in season opener

Clear Lake cross country teams opened the season Tuesday, Sept. 3, competing in the Newman Invitational held on the Mercy Health Center-North Iowa west campus.

“It was an evaluative meet for our team.  Runners were able to see how they measured up to the competition this season,” said Lions Head Coach Nick DiMarco.
