G-H/V’s Larson wins it all in the shot put

It was a record breaking day for Garner-Hayfield/Ventura’s Dasiana Larson, who broke the Garner-Hayfield school record on her way to winning the girls shot put at the Drake Relays on Friday, April 26.

 

Lions top Cardinals in girls soccer showdown

 

Ivy Hogg scored four goals and led the Clear Lake girls soccer team to a 9-0 victory over Garner-Hayfield/Ventura Tuesday, April 16.  The win kept the Lions undefeated at 3-0.

Clear Lake boys dominate IF-A, 9-0

 

The Clear Lake boys tennis team dominated Iowa Falls-Alden 9-0 in the first meet of the year.

Number one singles player Sam Jones topped Caleb Perkins  6-0, 6-2.  Jerry Kockler also swept Brandon Holdgrafer, 6-2, 7-5.

G-H/V boys track team opens 2013 season at Buena Vista indoor meet

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys track team opened the 2013 season with an indoor meet at Buena Vista College at Storm Lake on Saturday, March 16.

“Although it was along day, this was the perfect meet for us.  We were finally on a track, hurdling over real hurdles, and competing in field events,” said Coach Tracy Schmidt.  “Handoffs looked great for early in the season and we saw some great things from athletes.  Today only increased our excitement for the upcoming season.”

Ugly fourth quarter costs Cardinals a win

  An ugly fourth quarter led to the demise of the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys when they faced Osage (1-2, 4-2) on Tuesday, Dec. 19.

The first quarter saw both teams trading baskets and playing evenly, as the quarter ended in a 13-13 draw.  Osage began to pull a head in the second quarter and took a 32-28 lead into halftime.

Lions give Mason City a run for the money

The Clear Lake girls jumped into the deep end of the competitive pool and came out encouraged about the prospects for the 2013-14 season. 

Clear Lake sinks Ballard Bombers, 35-7

The Clear Lake Lions roared back from a slow start to sink the Ballard Bombers 35-7 in the opening round of the Class 3A State play-offs Wednesday night, Oct. 30.

Errors create narrow margin in GHV win

Garner-Hayfield/Ventura (4-1) defeated East Sac County (3-2) with a familiar display of physicality in a 13-10 win. The engine of the Cardinal’s power offense was restoked as 363-yards of offense was tallied in a game where luck favored the victors. But a lack of discipline nearly cost the Cardinals what should have been a decisive win over the Raiders. 

GHV’s stout defense shuts down Osage

In a display of unrelenting defense and a high caliber run game, Garner-Hayfield/Ventura (2-0) walked away from Friday’s game against Osage (0-2) with yet another impressive win.

  In a 48-0 bout against the Green Devils, GHV scored at will, as 41 points were chalked up in the first half.
