GHV volleyball team is a well-oiled machine

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura volleyball team continued their winning streak with two more victories in recent action.

GHV 3, North Iowa 0

The Cardinals traveled to North Iowa on Tuesday, Sept. 10.

The Bison gave GHV some competition in the first two sets, with close scores of 25-18 and 25-22.  The third set, however, was all Cardinals.  They rolled to an easy 25-9 score.

Pitzen, Loux and Bartlett earn All-North Central Conference honors

 

Three Clear Lake softball players have received All-North Central Conference recognition.

Senior Kaitlyn Pitzen was a First Team All-NCC selection as an infielder.  Pitzen played in 27 games during the season and compiled a .410 batting average.  Her 34 hits included three doubles and 10 RBIs.  She had an on-base percentage of .424 and a slugging percentage of .446.

It was another tough week for the Cardinals, as they dropped four more contests, putting their record at 1-15.

Cards drop final game of season

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls soccer team dropped the final game of the season to Gladbrook-Reinbeck, 10-0.

“Gladbrook is a very tough team and they are well coached,” said Coach Josh Banse.

Goalie Sam Betz had 14 saves for the Cards.  Bri Bier and Emily Spilman each had two shots on goal.

The Cardinals will say good-bye to seniors Jesslyn Prohaska, Bethany Nannenga, Kelly Babcock, Renae Lau and Sarah Marmaro.

Clear Lake girls tennis team places third at Regionals

 

The Clear Lake girls tennis team earned a hard-fought third place finish in Regional play Thursday, May 16, at Decorah.  The top two girls and team from a bracket of 16 advanced to the State tournament.  The Lions doubles team of Kaitlyn Pitzen and Taylor Julsen battled to a third place finish, meaning they would play at State if any of the top two teams are unable to compete at State.

The Lions had two players competing in singles play at the Regional meet and both drew a seeded opponent. 

Times falling for G-H/V girls

 

It was a good night for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls track team on Tuesday, April 30.  The team placed second in a field of eight.  Forest City won the meet with 158 points, followed by G-H/V with 116 and Clear Lake with 85 team points.  Also competing were Hampton-Dumont, Northwood, Newman, Belmond-Klemme and CAL.

Cards bring home some first place finishes

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls track team traveled to North Union on Thursday, April 25.  The Cardinals placed fourth in a field of eight teams.  North Iowa won the meet with 121 points.  G-H/V scored 77 team points.

“We were hoping to score higher as a team, but we’re still figuring out the best places to put everyone,” said Coach Dyan Childress.  “I’m anxious to see what happens by just moving a few people around and putting together some different relays.”

Cardinals fall to IF-A in soccer show down

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys soccer team dropped a 4-1 match with Iowa Falls-Alden on Thursday, April 4.

“Although Iowa Falls-Alden is a good team, we didn’t play our best,” said Head Coach Eric Williams.  “You could tell that we just don’t have our legs under us yet, or feel comfortable with each other.  We need to play as a team and understand each other’s rolls.”

The team was without starters Alex VanGerpen, Keith Schwicherath and Allen Devora.

Eagle Grove to leave North Central Conference

 

A second member of the North Central Conference has announced it will be leaving the league, beginning with the 2014-15 school year.

Last week Eagle Grove voted 3-2 to become a member of the North Iowa Conference.  They join Bishop Garrigan as NCC teams moving to the NIC.  Pending Eagle Grove’s move to the NIC, the North Central Conference would have eight members.
