GHV girls roll over competition

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls moved their record to 6-1, 8-3 with two big wins over Newman Catholic and Forest City.

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls basketball team came out on fire and scorched the Newman Catholic girls (0-7, 0-11) in a 63-29 romp on Friday, Jan. 17, at home.

Clear Lake hosts top cross country teams

During the 2014 Homecoming Week, the Clear Lake cross country teams hosted their annual home meet at the Regular Baptist Camp. The conditions were perfect, with 70 degrees and a light wind off the lake. Twelve teams came to compete at the rather challenging course.

Clear Lake well represented on NCC All-Conference and Class 3A All-District teams

Clear Lake is well represented on the All North Central Conference and Class 3A All-District baseball teams announced this week.

 The Lions, who finished as runner-up in the NCC with a 15-3 record (30-5 overall), landed four players on the First Team All-NCC list.
 Brock Adams was a unanimous choice as a First Team pitcher, while Pete Swenson was selected as an infielder and Mitch Keeran and Devin Uhlenhopp were both named First Team outfielders.

Lions now rated #1 in Class 3A

The Clear Lake baseball team moved up to number one in the Class 3A rankings this week. The Lions posted five more wins during the week and demonstrated what Coach Seth Thompson called “the most impressive offense I have seen all season” in an 11-1 rout of Bishop Garrigan.

Girls finish third at State; Snelling earns runner-up honors

 Clear Lake freshman Emily Snelling finished as the Class 3A runner-up and helped her team to a third place finish at the State Meet played at Ames June 2-3.

CLHS boys golf team to return to Class 3A State Golf Meet

 The Clear Lake boys will be returning to the Class 3A State Golf Meet this week. The Lions edged Decorah and finished as District runner-up Friday in Waverly. For the second time in three meetings Clear Lake got the best of Decorah, which finished third.

CL teams compete at North Central Conference Track Meet

The Clear Lake boys recorded their best finish since 1991 at the North Central Conference Track Meet run Tuesday, May 13 at Lions Field.  The Lions were runner-up with 87-points.  Algona took the title with 175.5 points.  Clarion-Goldfield finished one-half point behind the Lions with 86.50.

Chandler Diercks returned from injury to win the long jump and break Mark Hewitt’s conference record with a jump of 23’ 6”.  Hewitt’s record had held since 1981 at 22’ 10”.

With the conference meet and districts just around the corner, the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls track team had some things to work out at a home meet held on Monday, May 5.

CL girls compete in Charles City and Garner

Megan Merfeld figured in a pair of fourth place finishes for the Lions at the Charles City Girls Comet Invitational Friday. Merfeldd ran a 28.66 in the 200 and anchored the Lions’ 4x200. That relay, which was clocked in 1:58.66, also
