Niles named to NCC Second Team

 Clear Lake High School freshman Michaela Niles has been named to the All-North Central Conference teams. Niles, an outfielder for the Lions, was a Second Team pick.

Defensive struggles plague Cardinals in softball action

 The Garner-Hayfiled/Ventura softball team’s defense struggled this week, resulting in the team dropping three games.

Jones fourth at State

Clear Lake’s Sam Jones finished fourth in the Class 1A boys State Tennis Tournament played in Waterloo Friday and Saturday.

After a pair of opening day wins on Friday, Jones, who was undefeated and the 

number one seed in the tournament, dropped the semifinal round and third-place matches.

GHV boys soccer team records a 7-0 shutout

   For the first time in school history, the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys soccer team recorded a shut-out. They stopped CAL, 7-0, on Monday, May 19.
 Senior Teddy Zrostlik also made school history by being the first player to score three goals in one game.

Lions give 3rd ranked W-SR run for the money

The Clear Lake boys soccer team advanced to the championship game and gave third ranked (2A) Waverly-Shell Rock all they could handle at the Waverly Soccer Tournament played Saturday, May 10. The title game was deadlocked a 0-0 after 60-minutes of play. The Go-Hawks eventually won the championship in a shoot out.

Lions travel to Hampton for co-ed track meet

The Clear Lake girls and boys track teams were in Hampton Friday, May 2, to compete in an large co-ed invitational.  Even down three top performers, the Clear Lake boys ran extremely well, placing fifth out of 11 teams with 69.5 points; Hudson won the meet with 113. On the girls side, the Lions scored a season-high 22 points, placing 11th in the 12-team field.  Hudson also topped the girls standings with 124 points.

Lions host triangular; pick up two more wins

 The Clear Lake girls golf team opened the season with victories in two outings last week.

CL 194, GHV 203, B-G 205

 The Lions hosted a triangular meet with Garner-Hayfield/Ventura and Bishop Garrigan Tuesday, April 14. Clear Lake won with a 194, GHV was second with a 203, and Bishop Garrigan was third with a 205.

GHV girls blank opponent, 10-0

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls soccer team opened the 2014 season strong on Monday, April 7, by shutting out CAL/Hampton-Dumont/Belmond-Klemme 10-0.

“Anytime you score 10 goals and only allow one shot on goal, it is a good day,” said Coach Josh Banse.  “We played very well on both sides of the field.”

Wilson to be inducted into IHSGCA Player’s Hall of Fame

A Clear Lake High School golf standout who went on to play for the University of Iowa before becoming a golf professional in Dubuque, Iowa will be inducted into the  Iowa High School Golf Coaches Association’s  Player’s Hall of Fame.  

Cards pick up three wins; move on in District action

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys put away Newman Catholic and Charles City last week and topped Saint Ansgar Monday night in a District quarterfinal game.  

GHV 65, Newman 55

The Cardinals got off to a fast start against Newman Catholic on Monday, Feb. 10, at Newman, picking up a 65-55 North Iowa Conference victory to end the conference season.
