Cardinals move NIC record to 6-6

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys basketball team split a pair of games last week, moving their North Iowa Conference record to 6-6 and the overall record to 9-9.

Lions crush Cadets, 74-14

They sputtered, ever so briefly, but when they got rolling there was no stopping the Clear Lake girls.  They flattened Iowa Falls-Alden, 72-14, in a North Central Conference game played Friday.  The Lions, rated number three in Class 3A, improved to 10-1 overall and 9-0 in the NCC.

CL boys place 6th at Humboldt X-C meet; girls place 11th

Clear Lake cross country teams tested their mettle against a very talented field at Humboldt Sept. 22.  The Lion boys team finished sixth among 20 teams competing.  Due to injury and illness, the Lion girls team was not able to run a complete squad.

GHV softball team struggles through week

 The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura softball team struggled this week, dropping five games. The team’s record now stands at 7-18.

Lions roar at State Soccer

  The Clear Lake boys soccer team earned a third place finish at the Class 1A State Soccer Tournament which concluded Tuesday, June 10, at the Cownie Soccer complex in Des Moines. 

Cardinals go 1-2 in recent soccer action

Webster City 1, GHV 0

The Cardinals lost in a 1-0 shootout against Webster City on Tuesday, May 20.  The game was a tough one, as GHV was missing four starters who were either competing in the State Track Meet or out with injuries, leaving the team with only two substitutions.

“Despite all those factors, we played a great match,” said Coach Eric Williams.  “The young men played their hearts out.”

GHV boys track team wins North Iowa Conference title

Winning the North Iowa Conference was a goal for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys track team at the beginning of the season and Tuesday night, the team realized that dream.  The Cards won the title by a large margin with 154.50.  Forest City was second with 95 points and Belmond-Klemme and North Iowa tied for third with 70 points.

Lions win four relays

Clear Lake won four relays and posted victories in two individual events on their way to a third place finish at the Don Hoppel Co-ed Relays at Garner Monday.

Connor Nosbisch won by almost a second in the 110 meter high hurdles, crossing the finish line in 15.09.  Nosbisch was also a member of the winning shuttle hurdle, 4x200 and 4x100.
