Brinkman to lead CL girls golf team

Adam Brinkman, a Clear Lake golf standout during his high school years, will now lead the Lions girls team as its new head coach.  Brinkman replaces Fred Wieck, who submitted his resignation to the School Board earlier this year.  Wieck is stepping down after coaching 24 years in the program.

New Hampton ends season for GHV boys

Cold third quarter dooms Cards in District quarterfinal game

The season ended Saturday for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys at the hand of New Hampton, 68-42, in the District quarterfinal played at New Hampton.

“We had a tough task to knock off a very talented New Hampton team,” said GHV Coach Joe Albertson.  “We had to play hard, smart, and unselfish basketball to stay with them.”

St. Ed’s gets revenge

St. Ed’s got revenge for their only loss of the season, beating the Clear Lake girls (14-2, 13-1) Friday night in Fort Dodge.  The win puts the two teams on even standing atop the North Central Conference with four NCC games left to play.  

A week of ups and downs for the Cardinals

It was a win and a loss for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys basketball team last week.  The Cardinals topped Newman, but fell to a tough Forest City team.

Homecoming victory for the Lions

The top ranked Clear Lake Lions (4-0, 2-0) had a homecoming to celebrate, as they defeated the Estherville-Lincoln Central Midgets (1-3) to the tune of 54-27. After a slow start, the Lions found their rhythm and built momentum, successfully keeping the lead out of the Midgets’ reach. 

 

Three Lions named INA All-State selections

The Iowa Newspaper Association announced its 2014 All-State Baseball selections Tuesday, selecting first, second, third teams and team captains for classes 1A, 2A, 3A and 4A.
 Three Clear Lake players received All-State recognition.

GHV girls pick up some wins; top Clear Lake, 13-1

Coach Christina Weiser, coach of the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura softball team, felt like her team took positive strides this week, and is peaking at the right time. The Cardinals went 3-2 for the week moving their record to 7-14.

Soccer girls end one game short of State appearance

The season ended one game shy of a State berth for the Clear Lake girls soccer team. The Lions were defeated, 7-0, by Nevada Monday night, June 9. Details of that game will appear next week.

Cardinal girls take conference track title by a large margin

It was a very successful night for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls track team as they captured the North Iowa Conference Meet title on Tuesday, May 12.  The Cardinals won by a large margin with 144 points.  West Hancock was a distant second with 100 points.
