Thomas C. Richards, 67, of Clear Lake, died Sunday, April 19, 2015, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

A private celebration of Tom’s life will be held at the Guardian Angel Church, Clear Lake.  Family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., on Friday, May 15, 2015, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake. Family suggests in lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions be made to Mayo Clinic Foundation for cancer research in care of Jo Ellen Richards, 606 S. 12th St., Clear Lake, Iowa, 50428 or Patriots for Pets.

Hope “Peg” Clausen

Hope Margaret “Peg” Clausen, wife of TV and radio personality Bob Clausen, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2015, after losing her battle with breast cancer. She was surrounded by family and friends.

A Memorial Mass for Vanessa A. Peterson, age 36, of Marshall, Minn., was held on Monday, May 4, 2015, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, in Marshall.  Interment was at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, in Marshall. Vanessa passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 in Marshall.

Cardinal girls win NIC Meet

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls really ended the week on an upswing.  The team captured the North Iowa Conference championship for the third year in a row.

Bishop Garrigan Triangular

The GHV girl’s golf team was expecting to score behind Humboldt and Bishop Garrigan at a triangular held at Spring Valley Golf Course on Thursday, May 7.  The meet was about more than picking up wins,.  It was about preparing for the North Iowa Conference Meet which was held at the Spring Valley Course on Monday, May 11.

GHV boys improve record to 15-6

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys improved their season record to 15-6 after defeating Osage on Monday, May 4.  The Cardinals recorded a solid 167, while Osage posted a 184.

Medalist honors went to Grady Umbarger, who carded a 37.  

“Grady is playing excellent golf, shooting his third straight 37.  He is all about hard work and getting better,” said Coach Ken Krause.

CL finishes third at NCC Meet

The Clear Lake boys golf team finished third at the North Central Conference Tournament played Monday, May 11, at the Algona Country Club.  The Lions’ Dane Waldron placed third with a (41-38) 79.  Humboldt’s Christian Birdsell also carded a 79.  Webster City, led by Avery Fuhs’ 78, won the team title with a score of 322.  Humboldt was second with 325 and the Lions posted a

CL soccer boys tops three ranked teams

The Clear Lake boys soccer team moved up a spot in the rankings this week after topping three ranked teams and giving impressive performance at the highly-regarded Waverly-Shell Rock Tournament.  The Lions are now ranked fourth in Class 1A with a 8-2 record.  Their next match is Monday, May 18, at home against Mason City.  It will be Parent/Senior Night.

GHV girls remain focused

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls track team is remaining focused and has been breaking personal and season best performances, which is exactly what Coach Dyan Childress wants to see at this point in the season.

“Next week we are headed into the biggest week of the season.  The girls are excited to go all out and see what we can do at the conference and district meets,” said Childress.
