Remember When 1-26-2022

Witke’s 1970 - Dick and Chet Garth were owners of Witke’s Restaurant since November of 1970.  They continued the long standing tradition of fine food in a superb atmosphere.  Other features of Witke’s include a recently installed char broiler on which steaks were done to perfection.  Witke’s Restaurant was one of the oldest and best known dining places and was at the  location on North Shore since 1933.<

Nettie O. Kimball

Nettie O. Kimball, 93, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2022, at the MercyOne North Iowa Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 24, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 1st Ave N, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Melinda McCluskey, of Galilean Lutheran Church officiating.

Family suggests memorial contributions to MercyOne North Iowa Hospice Inpatient Unit or Galilean Lutheran Church in Clear Lake.

Larry L. Schroeder

Larry Lee Schroeder, 83, of Clear Lake, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022 at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center, Mason City. 

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm, on Saturday, Feb. 26, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 1st Ave N, Clear Lake. Visitation will be held from 1-2:30 p.m. prior to the service. 

Larry L. Schroeder

Larry Lee Schroeder, 83, of Clear Lake, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022 at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center, Mason City.

Grapplers give Mason City a tough battle

Clear Lake held a lead over Mason City, but saw it slip away in a hard-fought match with their county rival last week.  Mason City earned a 40-36 win.

Hayden Rieck gave the Lions a good start with a fall in 5:34 at 160-pounds.

Mason City returned the favor at 170, but three straight forfeits gave the Lions a 24-6 lead.  Aaron Richtsmeier added to it with a fall at 285 in 1:39.

Currier earns second NCC title; Hambly finishes as runner-up

Clear Lake’s Max Currier earned his second North Central Conference title and Kaleb Hambly finished as runner-up Saturday in Fort Dodge.  

The Lions placed sixth as a team.
