Bergvig returned to School Board; Newcomer Southgate wins second spot

Clear Lake School Board incumbent Chyrl Bergvig was returned to the board by voters, but challenger Greg Southgate narrowly claimed the second open seat on the board with a 13 vote victory over incumbent Tony Brownlee.

Clear Lake City Council members offered up their own version of a “Throwback Thursday” last week when the group, along with City Administrator Scott Flory, Police Chief Pete Roth and Finance Director Creighton Schmidt, sat down to discuss community issues.

Longtime Council member Mike Callanan said workshops were a common occurrence in his early days on the Council.

Clear Lake football players named to All-District teams

Two members of the Clear Lake High School football team have been named Most Valuable Players in Class 2A District 3 and join four others as First Team All-District players.

Quarterback Carson Toebe and defensive back Jagger Schmitt were designated by District coaches as the Most Valuable Players on offense and defense respectively.  Both are seniors.

Three volleyball players earn All-NCC honors

Three members of the Clear Lake High School volleyball team have received All-North Central Conference honors.

Sophomore Xada Johnson was a First Team selection as an outside hitter.

“Xada really worked on her defense during the off season and I think that showed this past season.  There is still a lot of room for her to grow in the sport and that is exciting,” said Clear Lake Head Coach Heather Johnson.
