Council holds public hearing for former Five Star Coop property repurposing

The Clear Lake City Council moved ahead Monday night with a public hearing and set a date for consideration of an ordinance which would provide a property tax exemption for company planning to repurpose the former Five Star Cooperative property at 2809 Main Avenue.  RCP Investments LLC, of Mason City, intends to repurpose the site  into  a dry goods warehouse and distribution center.

Gary L. Claude

Gary Lee Claude, 83, of Clear Lake, was set free to be with his Lord and Savior on Oct. 4, 2021, after valiantly battling Parkinson’s Disease for many years.

A memorial service to honor Gary will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 8, at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Jason Miller officiating. Inurnment will follow at Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 7, at the Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel & Crematory, in Clear Lake.

Tim Unsworth

Tim Unsworth, son of Anne and Terry Unsworth, of Clear Lake and formerly Earlham, Iowa, and brother to Mary (Unsworth) Anderson, died unexpectedly at his home in Newport, Minn. on Sept. 15, 2021. He would have been 55 on Oct. 8.

Tim leaves behind a legacy of love and caring for his family, many friends, colleagues at Northern Tool and Equipment where he worked for 28 years and his faithful three dogs.

Tim Unsworth, son of Anne and Terry Unsworth, of Clear Lake and formerly Earlham, Iowa, and brother to Mary (Unsworth) Anderson, died unexpectedly at his home in Newport, Minn. on Sept. 15, 2021. He would have been 55 on Oct. 8.

Howard Thomas Nelson, 89, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2021, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center, in Mason City.

A graveside inurnment will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 8, 2021, at Clear Lake Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Clear Lake VFW Post 4868 Honor Guard.

Family suggests memorial contributions to Clear Lake VFW Post 4868 or a charity of one’s choice.

Martin A. Herker

Martin Amil Herker was born Feb. 1, 1956, in Mason City, the son of Amil and Wilma (King) Herker, Jr.  He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1974. Martin graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 1978 and taught at North Tama Schools in Traer for 18 years serving as a science instructor and the school’s first athletic trainer.
