Lions remain perfect; one victory from a State berth

An 11-2 fourth quarter run, fueled by free throws, gave Clear Lake a 53-49 victory over Algona in a Class 3A Regional final Thursday night, Feb. 21.  The win kept the Lions’ season record perfect at 22-0 and put them one victory away from a State berth.

South Hamilton brings season to an end for GHV boys

The season came to a disappointing end for the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys basketball team when they dropped the 2A District final game to South Hamilton (20-1) on Tuesday, Feb. 19, in Webster City.

“We knew coming into the game South Hamilton would be tough to beat.  They have some solid guards and move the ball very well,” said Coach Jake Young.

GHV girls land three on Top of Iowa West All-Conference teams

Three Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls basketball players were named to the 2018-19 Top of Iowa West Division All-Conference Teams.

Jayden Frank, a sophomore, was named to the First Team.  Chloe Frank, a freshman earned Second Team honors, while Jade Hanson, a senior was recognized for Honorable Mention.

Four members of the Clear Lake girls basketball team have received All-North Central Conference honors.  The Lions finished in a tie with Iowa Falls-Alden for runner-up in the league standings with a record of 11-2.  However, the Lions topped the Pride Division of the NCC with a 5-0 mark.  Their only two losses in the NCC came at the hands of Algona, which claimed the title with a 13-1 record.
