GHV boys tune up for Districts by topping RRMR

James Betz and Landon Dahlbeck provided a powerful one-two punch, helping GHV to a 66-50 victory over Rockford Tuesday, Feb. 5.  Both Cards shot over 60 percent and put in 23 points apiece in the win.  Betz also dominated the boards with 12 rebounds and dished out a team-high six assists.

Nadine Faye Weaver

Nadine Faye Weaver, 77, of Clear Lake, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019, at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

Per Nadine’s wishes, her body has been cremated, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Nadine was born Oct. 31, 1941, the daughter of Harold and Edna (Womack) Slagle in Riceville (Mitchell County, Iowa).  She married Richard Weaver, Sr. on April 12, 1959, in Clear Lake.  He preceded her in death on Nov. 1, 2002.

Nancy Sue (Craig) Thalacker passed away Friday, Jan. 25, 2019 at Knapp Medical Hospital in Weslaco, Texas at the age of 76 from complications of cancerous brain tumors.

Nancy was born Oct. 29, 1942 in Anamosa, Iowa. She was the daughter of Leslie Earl and Violet Virginia (Gilmore) Craig. They moved to Des Moines, Iowa in 1944, where she attended school.

Good conditions for The Jack

The wait was worth it, as the annual Jack races, held in honor of snowmobile enthusiast Jack Helgren, were held Saturday.  January conditions didn’t allow the races on the orginially scheduled date, but there was plenty of snow in February and more than 20-inches of ice.-Reporter photo by Chris Barragy.

High speed chase in blizzard lands pair in jail

A high speed pursuit of a stolen vehicle through Clear Lake in blizzard conditions ended with a pair of arrests.
